Challenge: Create a simple embroidery figure, even something as simple as a square or other polygon. Or just explore using a combination of forward and turn commands. If you find yourself repeating bits of the script, wrap those in a repeat. Save your work and try to render it on the machine.
2. How to Stitch a Snowflake
Building your own blocks: how to reuse a design.
Challenge: Create a snowflake! Perhaps use your pattern from the first challenge, and use it to create a total turtle trip. But put your design in a block and then repeated the block six times. Make a block called ‘EarthSnowFlake” that draws your entire snowflake. Make a snowflake from Mars — their snowflakes are 10 sided…. Create a block. Now populate your space with a mix of earth and mars snowflakes. Take care to stay inside the space available for the embroidery frame.
3. Scaling Your Design
Scaling your design: how to use a variable.
Challenge: pick one of your designs so far, or perhaps create another one. Scale it. Put it in a block. You’ll have to explore on your own how to give the block a parameter (or ask!) . Now that you have a block that will scale your design, populate the embroidery area with different sized designs.
